Guided Hike Chicopee Backcountry Trail

March 5, 2022 is the public opening of the new Chicopee Backcountry Trail, part of the Chicopee Woods Hiking Trail system in northeast Georgia.

To introduce the hiking community to this trail, Elachee is offering no-cost, one-way guided hikes at 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m., starting at Chicopee Lake. NOTE: a third hike has been added, due to demand. Only limited spots remain. Call 770-535-1976 x230 to be added to the wait list.

You will hike (one way) with a guide, 4.22 miles along the new Chicopee Backcountry Trail. Hikers should be prepared to make the return hike to Chicopee Lake (4.22 miles along the Backcountry Trail or via the Bridge/Lake Loop, approximately 3 miles), or, have a vehicle parked at Elachee Nature Science Center.

This trail has difficult terrain and creek crossings, and is NOT recommended for novice hikers. Appropriate footwear and trekking poles are advised.

PLEASE NOTE: All vehicles entering and parking in the Chicopee Woods Conservation Area are subject to the Chicopee Woods Area Park Commission parking fee. Daily parking fee is $5 per vehicle or $10 for 15-passenger vans and buses.
