Elachee’s innovative curricula addresses grade-appropriate life, earth and physical science and English Language Arts concepts.
This supplemental instruction enables children and youth to interact with the natural world, while supporting social-emotional learning and the needs of the whole child.
During an Elachee field trip, students will explore, discover and learn about the plants, animals and natural systems of the 1,440-acre Chicopee Woods Nature Preserve.
Most field trips to Elachee Nature Science Center have two elements. We combine a classroom presentation with an interpretive hike in the Chicopee Woods, or other complementary outdoor activities. However, some programs are entirely outdoors.
Cognitive Benefits, Student Engagement and STEAM Career Interest
Students climb aboard the LLALC floating classroom, Chota Princess II, for a hands-on exploration of the history, ecology and challenges facing Lake Sidney Lanier. On shore, Elachee instructors engage students in related watershed activities.
Many grade-specific school field trip programs allow students to conduct pond and wetland studies on the shores of Chicopee Lake. This secluded spot also works well for smaller groups to enjoy an Elachee field trip experience. The site features a spacious lake boardwalk and covered teaching pavilion, with restroom access (during scheduled programs). This area is also a favorite site for birders.
PROGRAM LOCATION: Chicopee Lake, 2100 Calvary Church Road, Gainesville, GA 30507
Situated across the Chicopee Woods Nature Preserve from Elachee Nature Science Center, access to Chicopee Lake requires a 2.5 mile hike from the Visitor Center through the Nature Preserve or a 10-minute drive around its perimeter.
If you are unable to make the trip to south Hall County, Georgia, Elachee’s travel-tested instructors will bring exciting environmental education curriculum to you.
Transform your media center, gymnasium, classroom or an outdoor classroom with one of Elachee’s popular outreach programs.
