Discovery Saturdays at Elachee: Great Backyard Bird Count

The Elachee Visitor Center and Exhibits are open today from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for general admission. Remember: NO dogs or pets allowed on campus. Each visitor must wear a facemask when inside the Visitor Center and Live Animial Exhibit, follow CDC social distancing guidelines and follow all posted instructions.

We Love Birds!

TODAY, February 13, 2021 the Discovery Saturdays at Elachee feature scheduled activities and hikes focused on birding! SEE ACTIVITIES BELOW

While visiting the Nature Center, at home or at work you can help collect data on local wild birds for the annual Great Backyard Bird Count. This is an online citizen-science project of Cornell Lab of Ornithology and the National Audubon Society that takes place across the United States February 12-15, 2021. Visit to learn how to participate and for bird counting instructions.

Bird Photography and Art Contests

Elachee Nature Science Center is adding an interactive dimension to the 2021 Great Backyard Bird Count experience by asking local citizen scientists to participate in a birding contest:

Contests submissions accepted by email only ( from February 8 through February 14, 2021. These contests will end February 14, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. and winners will be announced February 15.

Birding Activities Today at the Nature Center

Elachee Teaching Naturalists are planning a variety of birding activities for visitors who want to join in on the citizen scientist action to collect local data for the Great Backyard Bird Count. If raining, activities will take place indoors.

Program Fee:
$20 Per Table (for 1 up to 5 individuals from a single family)
Program fee includes admission to the Visitor Center and Live Animal Room Exhibit.

Admission: $5 per Adult, $3 per Child (ages 2-12), Elachee Members Free
Parking Fee: All vehicles subject to the Chicopee Woods Area Park Commission daily parking fee of $5 or $10 for 15-passenger vehicles or buses.
