June 10th, 2023: The Star Trek Discovery Day in Downtown Gainesville

Join Elachee and the Gainesville Convention and Visitors Bureau on June 10th for The Star Trek Discovery Day in Downtown Gainesville! 

Elachee’s indoor facilities and visitor center will be closed for the event on Saturday, June 10th. Trails will remain open.

 

The Star Trek: June 10th, 2-5 pm

(For Astronauts of all Ages!)

Take a trip through the Solar System, without ever leaving Gainesville!

Discover the best that Downtown Gainesville has to offer as we re-launch the Solar System Walking Tour!

*This event is split into two time blocks, The Star Trek (Family Friendly) from 2-5 pm and The Galaxy Quest (Ages 21+) from 7-9 pm.*

The Solar System Walking Tour is back and better than ever! Join us on the Historic Square in Downtown Gainesville for a family-friendly afternoon along the Solar System trail, featuring activities from our partnering local attractions. Get a head start on your mission by printing off the Solar System Walking Tour map at home!

ACTIVITIES FROM:

  • Elachee Nature Science Center
    • Learn about the figures in the night sky with Elachee Nature Science Center’s portable planetarium, the Starlab! This activity will be located inside the Brenau Downtown Center, just off the Historic Downtown Square. The Starlab program will run every half hour beginning at 2 pm, with the last program of the afternoon beginning at 4:30 pm.
  • Sun Spotting with Robert Web:
    • View the surface of the sun (safely)! Astronomer Robert Webb will be on the square with a Hydrogen-Alpha telescope which allows viewers to see the sun, look for sun spots, and maybe even see a flare!
  • Chattahoochee Riverkeeper: 
    • Can you believe that the ocean covers more than 70% of Earth? Join Chattahoochee Riverkeeper (CRK) to talk about the natural resource that makes our planet Earth so special – WATER! Expect to create your own Earth at the CRK station and learn about ways we can further protect our waters.
  • INK – Interactive Neighborhood for Kids: Activity announcement coming soon!
  • Downtown Gainesville Branch of the Hall County Library: 
    • Beginning at 2:30 pm, enjoy “Blast-off Storytime”, an out-of-this-world space-themed story time with books, music, and more! Throughout The Star Trek, visit the Downtown Gainesville Library for lots of fun STEM activities including creating your own nebula with chalk, make marshmallow moonwalkers, outer space trivia, Oreo moon phases, creating your own aliens with recycled materials, and make a straw rocket launcher!
  • Northeast Georgia History Center: Activity announcement coming soon!

Galaxy Quest: June 10th, 7-9 pm (For Astronauts Ages 21 and Up!)

*This portion of the event is intended for attendees that are over the age of 21.*

Discover the spirit of the stars with the Galaxy Quest! Explore themed specialty drinks, food specials, live music, and more from your favorite Downtown Gainesville businesses.

ACTIVITIES FROM:

  • Elachee Nature Science Center
    • Learn about the figures in the night sky with Elachee Nature Science Center’s portable planetarium, the Starlab! This program will feature fun facts and information on the night sky for an adult audience. This activity will be located inside the Brenau Downtown Center, just off of the Historic Downtown Square. The Starlab program will run every half hour beginning at 7pm, with the last program of the evening beginning at 8:30pm.
  • Downtown Gainesville Branch of the Hall County Library:
    • Come channel your inner artist at the Downtown Gainesville Library and take part in their Starry Night Painting Workshop (6-9 pm)! REGISTER NOW!
  • SPECIALS FROM:

    • Tap It! Growlers:  Featured Beers – Moon People wheat beer and Space Dust IPA!
    • The Stag: Lightyear Lemonade – A purple gin lemonade with star-shaped fruit and galactic glitter galaxy!
