Elachee Closure Update
April 1, 2020 (Gainesville, Ga.) To protect the children, families and nature lovers we serve, Elachee Nature Science Center has closed its public facilities until further notice, suspending all events, programs and access to exhibits during this time.
Hiking Trails Are Open
The hiking trails in Chicopee Woods Nature Preserve are still available 7 a.m. to sunset, however visitors must follow CDC guidance for social distancing until further notice. There are no restroom facilities available. For your safety, please review the Tips for Trail Use before venturing along this 8-mile hiking trail system. Be aware of the posted animal restrictions (no dogs Monday through Friday, leashed dogs allowed Saturday and Sunday), the “Leave No Trace” policy and other important details to make your time in the forest an enjoyable experience.

Elachee’s Flights of Fancy Update: The Show Will Go On(line)
The Elachee Board of Trustees invites the public to participate in the 20th Annual Flights of Fancy VIRTUAL Benefit & Auction. The auction goes live online April 16, 2020, culminating in a live streaming virtual fundraising event on Saturday, April 25, 2020, starting at 6 p.m.
This annual event raises critical funds that makes possible the continuation of Elachee’s environmental education programming and important conservation projects in the Chicopee Woods Nature Preserve. These initiatives serve some 70,000 individuals each year in communities throughout the northeast Georgia region. As a 501(c)(3) not for profit organization, Elachee relies on earned income, donations and grant awards, sponsorships and the annual Flights of Fancy event as part of a multi-faceted fundraising strategy to fulfill its mission.
Regional Public Program Update
Elachee’s 10th Annual Trillium Trek Trail Run & Walk is rescheduled for Saturday morning, May 30, 2020 (with an October 3, 2020 back-up race date, if needed). Race registration is open for both the Half-Marathon and 5K Run/Walk.
Elachee’s spring semester Georgia Master Naturalist Program Series will be rescheduled for fall semester 2020 (dates pending).

School Programs Update
Elachee Nature Science Center has adopted and is following the protocols and practices related to COVID-19, as set forth by the Hall County School District. Visit https://www.hallco.org/ for updated information. The Elachee Education Team is actively working with Georgia school districts, individual schools and their teachers to reschedule PreK-12 environmental education field trips and Elachee in Your Classroom outreach programs impacted by school closings.
The Elachee Director of Education will contact participants registered in the May 2020 First Wednesday Home School Program for next steps.
Camp Elachee Update
Camp Elachee Spring Break Day Camp, scheduled for April 6-10, 2020, has been cancelled. The Camp Elachee Director is communicating directly with those families who have active registrations for this camp experience.
Camp Elachee Summer Day Camps
Camp Elachee registration is open for the nine, weekly summer day camps scheduled for June 1 through July 31, 2020. Check out the exciting camp options for Pre-Kindergarten, Elementary and Middle School ages, as well as the Counselors-in-Training Leadership Program for rising 9-12 graders.
Elachee’s Public Facilities Closure Update
Elachee’s Visitor Center, interpretive and live animal exhibits and Nature Shop will be closed until further notice. There is no public access to restroom facilities.
Elachee Nature Academy ‘School from Home’ Update
Students in Elachee Nature Academy’s Preschool and Kindergarten-1st Grade classes will ‘school from home’ until further notice for the 2019-2020 academic year. Families have received specific instructions from the Director of Schools and their teachers regarding respective Elachee Nature Academy classroom communication plans. Elachee Nature Academy is accepting enrollment applications for the 2020-2021 school year,
