Middle School Summer Day Camps


Camp Elachee 2020 is presented by Elachee Nature Science Center presenting platinum annual sponsor Northside Hospital.

Elachee’s Middle School summer day camps are for young people entering 7th and 8th grade in the fall. Pre-registration is required. Space is limited and is filled on a first-come basis. NOTE: Each weekly camp will be capped at 12 registered participants. 

Middle School Camp Overview

Camp Elachee 2020 offers five (5) weekly middle school camps. See schedule below. Activities vary by camp week. Some camps are physically challenging, or may require specific equipment and gear. Among the exciting adventures campers may experience are visits from Elachee naturalists, special guest presenters and a unique evening program. Where noted, campers will enjoy an off-campus field trip or special overnight adventure as part of the camp week experience.  

Middle School Camp Hours: Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. 

Middle School Camp Fees: $265 per camper, per camp week 
Elachee members receive a $20 discount per camper, per camp week.
Your membership must be current for the camp weeks your child is attending to receive the member discount.

After Camp Child Care: Optional after camp child care is $50 per camper, per camp week. Offered daily from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., this supervised child care is a convenient option for working parents.

Camp Elachee 2020: Middle School Camp Themes 

June 1-5: Mad Science Mayhem
Create and perform experiments featuring chemical reactions and physics, while exploring and learning about the natural world in this jam-packed week of fun that ALSO includes a Lake Lanier cruise. Climb aboard the Lake Lanier Aquatic Learning Center (LLALC)*/** program floating classroom, Chota Princess II, for a hands-on exploration of the history, ecology and challenges facing Georgia’s most important reservoir AND conduct water quality tests.

June 15-19: Space Week
Become an astronomer with an out of this world adventure learning about the solar system and astronomy, and by venturing into the Starlab (Elachee’s inflatable planetarium) PLUS enjoy an overnight at Elachee.

June 29-July 3: Water Week
Learn about the aquatic environment, properties of water and water quality through exploring Elachee’s waterways and aquatic life. Conduct water quality tests and other activities while cruising Lake Lanier aboard the Chota Princess II LLALC*/** program floating classroom.

July 13–17: Wilderness Survival
During this “SURVIVOR”-themed week, learn how to work as a team and gain skills such as plant identification, building shelters and primitive fire-building! PLUS enjoy an overnight at Elachee.

July 27-31: Creature Care
Learn what it takes to care for Elachee’s 35 species of resident teaching assistants, inhabitants of the Live Animal Exhibits. Students will spend time with Elachee’s Animal Curators to have close encounters with reptiles and amphibians! Adding an aquatic element, also board the Chota Princess II LLALC*/** program floating classroom for hands-on cruise on Lake Lanier.

**Boat cruise day, campers will not come to Elachee (Camp Elachee staff will share more details). Instead, parents/guardians must drop off (8-8:30 a.m.) and pick campers up (3-3:30 p.m.) at the LLALC boat dock at River Forks Park, 3500 Keith Bridge Road, Gainesville, GA 30504.
