Camp Elachee Kick Off
Week One: All About Animals
The start to Camp Elachee 2016 was everything counselors and campers could have wished for...and more! With 86 campers having the times of their lives, dozens of counselors and counselors-in-training shepherding them through the week, it was a blast from start to finish. Campers watched pigs fly (simulated pigs posing as pink balloons) and then had to call, "Sooie," to shoo the 'pigs' into their pens.
On Western Day, campers dressed like their favorite skit character from the week (favorites were Earl and Pearl Dean), then hugged Gabriel the Alpaca and other critters who moseyed on over for a visit.
Mystery solved. Whew! Each day campers eagerly searched for the hidden golden egg only to meet the celebrity Guinea (pig) Chicken, Herman G. Hashbrown, who they learned had been the one laying eggs around the Elachee preserve all along. Scratching your head? Just go with it!
"Several campers, who I know have been coming the past five years to every camp session, told me their counselors this week were the BEST ever," shares Ciara Frakes, Camp Elachee Director. "All our counselors are awesome."
Campers also had the chance to hike through the Chicopee Woods, play in the creeks, learn about mammals, marine mammals and reptiles through interactive discovery and play and by meeting these furry/scaly friends in person!
Up next? Night and Day week at Camp Elachee. See descriptions for each day camp by age group.
